The San Mamés stadium was the first football ground to obtain the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
One of the project's main challenges was that the football team and supporters could not move to another team's stadium during construction. As a consequence this work has been be carried out in various phases, permitting demolition of the previous stadium once the first phase of the new stadium was completed, as both shared the same location and one gallery.

The design was BREEAM certified and rated “very good”, thus demonstrating its firm commitment to energy efficiency and the well-being of its users. Use of water, energy and materials is economized and it offers users a high comfort level.
The architecture studio’s concept for the shopping mall was to create a cool relaxing environment to contrast with the dryness of the surrounding area by using plants, water and natural light.
The Project has been implemented under strict Sustainability and Energy efficiency criteria, resulting in the "excellent" certification of BREEAM ES.
Saint-Gobain PLACO has contributed directly through its systems and products. High walls have been solved through the High Still System, which make possible to reach to 10 meters of height with an excellent EI120 fire resistance (120 minutes without exceeding 45 degrees).
Besides, some other plasterboards have been installed like BA, PlacoFlam & Placomarine in order to solve curve zones, fire resistant walls and wet zones, respectively.
