When it comes to energy efficiency, Saint-Gobain Ecophon offers systems that provide optimal acoustics in thermally active building systems (TABS) buildings without affecting energy-saving functions in the building.
Ecophon products have excellent light reflectance (85%), which minimizes the need for artificial lighting and reduces energy consumption.
Aim
To achieve increasing levels of energy performance beyond the prerequisite standard to reduce environmental and economic harms associated with excessive energy use.
Detailed requirement
The project’s energy performance is assessed and compared to the baseline. Points are awarded according to the percentage of improvement between the two (see table below).

Good acoustics in TABS buildings
In green buildings with thermally active building systems (TABS), the high thermal mass in the concrete floor structures is utilized to level out temperature variations in the building. A wall-to-wall ceiling cannot be used, as this would prevent heat from being transferred to and from the concrete.
In TABS buildings, good acoustics are achieved through a combination of free-hanging ceiling absorbers, wall absorbers and sound-absorbing screens. This solution ensures low energy consumption (or high energy efficiency) and good room acoustics.

Minimize the need for lighting
The light reflectance of the surfaces in a room is crucial to maximizing the effect of artificial light and daylight in the room.
Ecophon products have a high light reflectance (85%), which means that less artificial light is needed than when products with a lower light reflectance are used, resulting in lower energy consumption.
