Aim

To reduce concentrations of chemical contaminants that can damage air quality, human health, productivity, and the environment.

Detailed requirement

This credit covers volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions into indoor air and the VOC content of materials, as well as the testing methods by which indoor VOC emissions are determined. Different materials must meet different requirements to be considered compliant for this credit. The building interior and exterior are organized into seven categories, each with different threshold for compliance. Walls, ceilings and flooring are defined as building interior products; each layer of the assembly, including paints, coatings, adhesives, and sealants, must be evaluated for compliance. Insulation is tracked separately.

Our contribution

In keeping with our green building principles, Ecophon offers the market’s widest range of sound absorbers with extremely low volatile organic compound (VOC) and formaldehyde emissions. We meet some of the market’s strictest emission tests, including French A+ and the California Emission Regulation.

In order for LEED points to be credited under “Low-emitting materials”, ceilings must meet the requirements under “General emissions evaluation”. The main rule is that the product must be approved according to the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Standard Method v1.1–2010. All Ecophon products meet this criterion, so whichever model you choose, it will meet the requirements.
