Key contribution

ISOVER products, composed of sustainable materials, achieve optimum acoustic protection by decreasing reverberation time using sound-absorbing materials.

Aim

To ensure the building's acoustic performance, including sound insulation meets the appropriate standards for its purpose.

Requirement summary

All unoccupied spaces must comply with defined indoor ambient noise level (either national regulation, or good practice standards, or BREEAM levels). The ambient noise is measured on site by a suitably qualified acoustician to ensure that the relevant spaces achieve the required levels. The sound insulation between “acoustically sensitive rooms” (offices, meeting rooms, rooms used for public speaking or seminars …) and other occupied areas comply with the privacy index.

For rooms/areas used for speech, a reverberation time level has to be respected

Our contribution

Noise is a major distraction and disruption in living and working spaces, therefore, having effective acoustics is key to comfort and lifestyle. The benefits to our health and well-being are many, and buildings must be well insulated for sound in order to guard them from the surrounding noise.

Noise transmission within a structure can be blocked by effective and appropriate wall, floor and ceiling solutions, where effective insulation techniques are adopted as a permanent and long-term measure. ISOVER’s mass-spring-mass solution offers not only a lighter and thinner solution compared to traditional installations, with no compromise to acoustic performance, but also costs less and is simple to install.

Clearly distinguishing sounds is of prime importance in classroom, conference room and opera hall type settings. These spaces require specific acoustic solutions to support these functions and to avoid undesirable sounds such as echoes, in order to create the optimal environment. An appropriate approach in achieving a decrease in reverberation time is to use material that absorbs the sounds.

ISOVER’s lightweight mineral wool solutions (glass wool insulation and Ultimate product lines) are ideal for use in mass-spring-mass systems or as sound-absorbing materials, resulting in exemplary results for acoustic performance. Sound comfort can be addressed from the construction planning stage, for all ISOVER applications.
