At the heart of Saint Gobain’s Strategy, Eco-Innovation fosters the development of innovative products and solutions for increasing customer benefit and reducing environmental impact.
Aim
To support innovation within the construction industry through the recognition of sustainability related benefits which are not rewarded by standard BREEAM issues.
Requirement summary
There are two ways to benefit from the Innovation credits: either by meeting the exemplary level of building performance defined for one or more of the BREEAM issues such as Hea 02 Indoor Air Quality or Wst 01 construction waste management. Or by using an “approved innovation”: any technology, method or process that can be shown to improve the sustainability performance of a building’s design, construction, operation, maintenance or demolition, and which is approved as innovative by BRE Global.

Saint-Gobain’s eco-innovation policy develops innovative products and solutions that help reduce the environmental impacts of buildings and infrastructures over their entire life cycles.
Option 1:
Saint Gobain’s GYPROC products are likely to contribute to the following BREEAM criteria:
- Hea 02 Indoor Air Quality
GYPROC Activ’Air®/ AirRenew®technology absorbs formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs)in the space and converts them into safe, inert compounds that, once captured in the product, cannot be released back into the air. 70% of formaldehyde is reduced in the air, thus avoiding health issues for occupants. The product keeps working for 75 years, based on tests and analyses, even after multiple renovations.
- Mat 01 Life Cycle Impacts
Our GYPROC product Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) are reliable resources available for the assessment of green credentials of construction products and enable companies to communicate credible, fact based information about their products to consumers. We offer Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our products that are renewed every five years.
- Mat 03 Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products
By providing BES 6001, the independent audit from the Building Research Establishment (BRE), our customers are assured that GYPROC materials are responsibly and sustainably sourced.
- Wst 01 Construction Waste Management
GYPROC’s waste management efforts aim to divert product waste away from landfills, while offering recycling options in 14 countries around the globe.
