Key contribution

Ecophon products, made from sustainable materials, provide a good example of how you can actively work to minimize material usage and waste in your project. This can be included in the documentation mentioned in this section.

Aim

To recognise and encourage measures to optimise material efficiency in order to minimise the environmental impact of material use and waste without compromising on structural stability, durability or service life of the building.

Requirement summary

Opportunities have been identified, and appropriate measures investigated and implemented, to optimize the more efficient use of materials in building design, procurement, construction, maintenance and end of life. It is performed in consultation with relevant parties.

Our contribution

Ecophon products contribute to low material usage in several ways.

First of all, Ecophon's sound absorbers are very effective, which means that you do not need to complete your acoustic ceiling with as many wall-mounted and freestanding absorbers to achieve good acoustics.

In addition, Ecophon sound absorbers can be ordered in sizes tailored to your project. This way, all cut-off waste can be avoided.

The absorbers and grids can be dismantled without being damaged. This means that you can reuse the material, for example, when renovating or if a building is to be demolished.

When the time comes for your Ecophon ceiling to be recycled, the components are easily separated into fractions (glass wool and metal). Ecophon recycles all absorbers made of third-generation glass wool free of charge. This applies to entire ceilings as well as cut-off waste from installations. All you need to do is deliver the material (separated) to our factory in Hyllinge, Sweden.

See Wst 01 section for more information.

You can start by specifying that the products used in your project must be:

  • Functionally efficient;
  • Able to be delivered in custom sizes;
  • Reusable; and
  • 100% recyclable.

By choosing Ecophon products to exemplify theise features, you will have a good start to fulfilling the requirements in this BREEAM criterion.
